Deputy Speaker of Cross River House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, joins other parliamentarians in Canada for Conference of Speakers
The Deputy Speaker of Cross River House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, has joined other parliamentarians across the world for a week long conference of Speakers in Canada.
The lawmaker is currently engaging with his colleagues and other parliamentarians across the world in Canada in the area of effective law making, representation and promotion of good governance.
No doubt, rising from a Councillor in Calabar South to the position of a two term Deputy Speaker in the Cross River House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bassey has mastered the keys of legislation and this he has done creditably. While equipping himself intellectually with a broad knowledge of law making within and outside the country, the Deputy Speaker is surely preparing himself for the Green Chambers in Abuja.
While welcoming the parliamentarians to Canada, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, expressed his Country’s readiness and commitment to further deepen bilateral relationship between Canada and Nigeria.
Trudeau, disclosed this in his message at the commencement of the week-long 2022 Conference of State Legislators whick kicked off in Ottawa, Canada.
The lawmakers are set out for robust engagement with the host country with a view to learning practices and ideals that will reposition Nigeria on the right trajectory for greatness through subnational legislative activities.
The choice of Canada is strategic, giving Nigeria’s shared history of being a Commonwealth nation and its democratic experiences. Canada is no doubt, one of the most developed countries of the world worthy of learning from.
